Nice to Meet You

My name is Maryellen and I have been a practicing clinical social worker for 10 years and a music therapist for 16 years.  Becoming one of the helpers was always my goal throughout my childhood and school years.  Now that I am running my own practice, I strive to provide support to those in need and provide both therapy and education around mental health.

I grew up in rural central Pennsylvania and received my Bachelor of Music Therapy degree from Elizabethtown College.  From there, I worked as a a music therapist in Amman, Jordan provided psychosocial services to Iraqi refugees. That experience allowed me to learn and grown as a clinician and individual. When I returned to the U.S, I moved to the Boston area and began to train and work in hospice and end-of-life care.  During my work as a hospice music therapist, I visited the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and was introduced to outpatient clinical social work.  I knew from that time that I wanted to go back to graduate school for a degree in social work and become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  I completed my MSW graduate degree at the Simmons University School of Social worker and  went on to work at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.  After a move to California, I also worked a outpatient clinical social worker at the University of California San Francsico Helen Diller Family Cancer Center.

I am now a mom of two girls and our family relocated to North Carolina in 2022 which has been wonderful.  I am so grateful to be able to provide therapy services via my private practice and currently provide Telehealth sessions to patients located in North Carolina, Massachusetts, and California.  I have active social work licenses in those three states.
